This makes it easy to switch between apps and do other things at the same time. The Zenfone 10 has high-performance processors, a lot of RAM, and well-optimized software. This seems to be the main reason why the Zenfone has gained 3g of weight and 0.3mm of thickness, but it’s not like it’s become a chonker because of it, so the change is very welcome. Even though this year’s specs are mostly small changes and sidesteps/downgrades, there is one big change: it now has wireless charging. Asus says that this generation’s gimbal stabilization is better. Given this, the fact that the main camera hasn’t changed seems like a good thing. Also gone is AF on the selfie camera, which has been replaced by a 32MP unit instead of the 12MP one on the old model. The Zenfone 9’s ultrawide camera could do that, but this one can’t. The ultrawide camera no longer has autofocus, which is a change we wouldn’t call a good one. The top-of-the-line Zenfone 10 now has 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which is more than the 9’s 256GB. It will be important to see how the ZenFone 3 holds up after a few months of daily use, and since it was just released we really have no way of knowing. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. While it hasn't brought me directly to Phone Nirvana, I've been pleasantly surprised by the Zen of the ZenFone 3.Along with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the memory is faster than the last generation. I almost never buy phones that have just been released as the prices drop so quickly, but the ZenFone 3 was cheaper than almost anything comparable, even against other phones that have been out for 6 months or a year already. I would definitely recommend this phone to someone who is not a phone snob, but who would appreciate a quality phone at the right price. Best thing about it? It's only $250-300, unlocked. The high points are basically everything else: it's fast and smooth, the screen is bright (but could be better in direct sun), the camera shoots 4K video, and some of the ZenUI apps are actually useful. The low points for me are some aspects of the design, the audio quality, and the software bloat. Overall, the ZenFone 3 is an excellent mid-range, mid-2016 smartphone. Here is a list of all of the included ASUS Zen apps: There were 8 of those in total, which I removed. The pre-installed apps for the Taiwanese version include: Amazon Kindle, a couple of Taiwan-specific shopping sites, Yahoo Auctions, Puffin Browser, Instagram, a Taiwan game app store and some games (Need For Speed & The Sims). Then you can uninstall or disable any apps you don't want with a single tap & confirm dialog. So the first thing to do when you get a ZenFone is open up your app drawer, tap the menu, and tap Uninstall. Some of them are useful (system-wide audio equalizer, FM radio, note pad) many are not. There are also around 25 ASUS apps in total, that can only be disabled (but not uninstalled). I already have at least a dozen different messaging and social apps, I certainly don't need another one specific to people who have ASUS phones.īetter than previous generations, but there were still 8 pre-installed 3rd party apps on the phone, none of which I wanted. And everything on ZenCircle is in Mandarin (possibly because I have a Taiwanese device, but it's set to English). The included equalizer software helps a little bit.ĪSUS is pushing its own two social apps, ZenCircle and ZenChat, as basically Facebook and Messenger equivalents. The speaker quality is not something I would be able to listen to for any length of time. It can shatter, just like the front, and would be just as difficult to replace. I'll take unbreakable, unsmudgeable plastic over glass on the back of a budget phone any day of the week. It gets smudged to hell, instantly, every time you hold the device. Why? Just why? And why does this seem to be so popular these days from many different manufacturers? It looks good not great. (Yeah, I know, there are only 3 and they're pretty easy to remember, but a backlight would be nice - doesn't Taiwan overproduce LEDs anyway?) Also, there's no backlight, so they are impossible to see in the dark. I like to have that extra bottom bezel to hold the device with my thumb. Granted, these are not unique to ASUS, but coming from Sony (soft keys FTW), I am not a fan.

The company, formally BMW AG, was founded in Munich in 1916. A head-up display projects needed info on the windshield.BMW's New 7 Series Is Stunning in Almost Every Way BMW HistoryīMW stands for Bavarian Motor Works ( Bayerische Motoren Werke in German). Beside the heat vents, the iX also gets warmth from radiant heat. The squircle wheel sticks out in front of two big, curved screens while a glass rotary dial controls the operating system (BMW didn’t call it iDrive). With the moved a-pillars and no driveshaft tunnel the iX should feel cavernous inside. The cowl panel and rear window frame components use continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastics, which is similar to CFPR, but doesn't require carbon fiber. To save weight and add range BMW used an aluminum spaceframe body structure with a bunch of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) components in the side, rear and roof areas. BMW says those advantages were good for 40 extra miles on the European test cycle. For reference, the sleek Tesla Model 3 is at 0.23. It also tapered the glass house, closed off the underbody, added lower air flaps, those flush door handles and slim mirrors and came out with a drag coefficient of 0.25. BMW moved the IX's A-pillars forward, increasing the cabin size. With anything EV, a ton of time is spent optimizing aerodynamics for those extra miles of range. Shade mode is activated automatically when the iX is parked. That stops UV rays when clear and offers shade at the touch of a button. The BMW iX gets a panoramic glass roof, using two huge glass panels and three layers of film in between. One uses lasers and “a precisely defined combination of material and layer thickness to optimize radar performance.” The other is a self-healing polyurethane able to repair minor scratches “within 24 hours at room temperature or through a five-minute supply of warm air." Cool stuff here, and very useful going forward. The grille also has several coatings to protect it. Cameras, radar and other sensors find a home there, as do heating and cleaning systems to keep those sensors clear in any weather. Since this is an EV the grille is completely closed off personally, I think that’s a better look than no grille at all, but I’m sure everyone has thoughts.īMW now needs the real estate for other things. Obviously, we get a new interpretation of BMW’s kidney grille in front along-it looks like the new 3- and 4-Series-with slim twin headlights. The new EV is about the X5's length but is lower like the X6. The head and taillights of the BMW iX are both slimmed down. All payments are done through BMW’s mobile app. It claims to be the nation’s largest public fast-charging network and the U.S.'s first powered by 100% renewable energy. Overall, it charges fully in 11 hours on a Level 2 charger. BMW says that in 10 minutes, drivers can get back 75 miles of range. The iX enables DC fast charging at 200kW and the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 40 minutes. Electric motors on each axle power all four wheels 0-60 mph takes a bit less than 5 seconds. The BMW iX rides on a new modular, scalable architecture, according to the company, and has a predicted range of about 300 miles. It’s eDrive technology produces about 500 hp. It’s now called the BMW iX and is the company’s EV flagship going forward. Its Vision iNEXT electric SUV has moved from concept form to the testing phase. The BMX iX will be the company's X5-sized flagshipīMW has no plans of ceding ground in the EV market to Mercedes, Audi or Tesla. The purpose of Asatru is to live a meaningful life. The ideas of the group are based on the pre-Christian belief structure of the medieval Germanic people, and followers revere a variety of divinities. It has expanded throughout North America, Eurasia, and Australasia. It was an emblem of mystical safety and is still used now as an Asatru emblem.Īsatru, which translates as “believing in the gods,” is a contemporary resurgence of the Norse pagan tradition. The Triceps sign, a less commonly used variation of the Valknut, mimics the Valknut including its triangle created by 3 diamonds. The Valknut’s 3 triangles and 9 tips are thought to represent fertility, regeneration, and resurrection, and its interconnecting triangles may represent a link among Earth, Hel (the deity who reigns over the abyss, Helheim), and the skies. Nevertheless, thanks to the shortage of clarity in the visual depiction, this is not the most common interpretation of the Valknut origin. He wore a stone heart with 3 pointed edges. Hrungnir was indeed the god of the nighttime, frost, obscurity, and the dead. The Valknut is also linked to Hrungnir’s heart, which is recorded in Snorri Sturluson’s Poetic Edda. Odin travels across realms by mounting his horse, Sleipnir, through to the world tree’s roots. The ash tree represents the mystical core of the Norse realm. The Nine Worlds are likewise kept in the Yggdrasil globe tree’s limbs (pronounced IG-druh-sill). The Nine Worlds are the realms of several kinds of beings, including humans, divinities, titans, ice, fire, fairies, and the deceased. By achieving a higher level of awareness and traveling through all the Nine Worlds to see the future and accomplish their goals, the followers were able to manage the route of existence and its different strands. Some accounts claim that the ceremonies may have included the utilization of physical desire and stimulation: sexual magic.Īs mentioned in several Nordic texts, the stick used in the rituals resembles a phallic epithet. Guys who engaged in the activity were prosecuted because it violated Germanic societal norms at the period.Įven during rites, the female companions would simultaneously pray, sing, and enter a trance. Pagan women were often the only ones who performed Norse mysticism and magic, also known as Seidr (pronounced SAY-der). According to legend, the Valknut is a sign of binding and unbinding power. He possessed the capacity to utilize magic to tie and disable objects and hence manipulate people’s minds. He was a strong sorcerer who was linked to knowledge, war, literature, shamanism, sorcery, and the afterlife. Odin, a beloved and mighty deity in Norse folklore, was thought to be associated with the Valknut emblem. Researchers have proposed a variety of different reasons for the Valknut’s beginnings. I’m sitting at over 500 rounds of a mix of Federal bulk pack, Aguila, and CCI Stingers through this Rough Rider. 44 caliber Colt Walker, but it feels the part of a solid pinker. I feared it would feel, well, like a child’s toy. I will say that I was a bit apprehensive when I got my first Heritage. There is just a hint of creep before the break. It breaks under three pounds for me and basically starts at the wall with no travel. Rough Riders are single-action-only guns, and that light, crisp trigger can attest to that. But once the gun is in your hand, you can almost just look at a target and your hand will follow. They are merely a notch and grove with a rounded front blade. The sights don’t offer much, and neither did the originals. This gun points quite naturally, and I often find I shoot better while plinking at close ranges with more instinctive shooting. The sights are very basic and not that easy to pick up, but the gun points very naturally. (Photo: Paul Peterson/) (There is also a fourth click you’ll hear as the final travel of the hammer locks the cylinder into place.) The process is tactile, audible, and frankly fun on the range. The third full-cock position is for when you’re ready to fire. The first is a safety that locks the cylinder and the trigger, while the second releases the cylinder to spin for loading and unloading. 22Ĭycling the gun is done solely with the hammer, which cocks to three stages while rotating and finally locking the cylinder. RELATED: Review – Heritage Barkeep Single-Action. This gun’s firing pin is separate from the hammer and held into the frame with a spring pushing it rearward until the hammer strikes. There are versions too short to host this feature, such as the Barkeep model, so a manual poker is required. Loading and unloading happen one round at a time through the loading gate with the help of a spring plunger mounted on the side of the barrel. The cylinder pin is held in place with a spring retaining button. (Photo: Paul Peterson/) Manufacturer’s description: “At bedtime, a soothing yellow night-light comforts children as they fall asleep.
